Biewer Terrier: The Adorable Toy Breed with German Origins

The Biewer Terrier is a small toy breed that originated in Germany in the 1980s. The breed was developed by a couple named Werner and Gertrude Biewer who were avid Yorkshire Terrier breeders. They noticed that some of their Yorkshire Terrier puppies were born with white markings that were not recognized by the breed standard.

The Biewers decided to selectively breed these puppies in order to create a new breed with unique markings. They crossed their Yorkshire Terriers with other small breeds such as the Maltese and the Havanese to create a new breed with distinct characteristics.

The Biewer Terrier is a small, toy-sized breed that weighs between 4 and 8 pounds and stands between 7 and 11 inches tall. They have a long, silky coat that is usually black and white, blue and white, or tan and white. Their coat requires regular grooming and brushing to prevent matting.

Biewer Terriers are known for their playful and affectionate personalities. They are intelligent and easy to train, but can be stubborn at times. They enjoy being around people and are great family pets.

Although the Biewer Terrier is a relatively new breed, it has gained popularity around the world due to its adorable looks and charming personality. It was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2021 and is now eligible to compete in AKC-sanctioned events.
